Bad News, Good News Time...
Regretfully we have had to cancel the performances planned for Friday & Saturday this week due to an issue with our building. Oh the joys of operating in a structure built in 1851! So, if you had been planning to attend David Copperfield or TenFiveSixty these will NOT now take place on the dates previously advertised.
We are making plans to reschedule these events with the very strong possibility of the TenFiveSixty making an appearance on the John Peel Stage at.... oh, we've not written up the full press release for that one so we can't tell you just at the moment.
On a brighter note we are about to announce something really special about this year's John Peel Stage... and it may not be where you think it might be... keep following us on twitter or befriend us on Facebook to be the first to know...
"This Scribbling Might Stay"
It had been a busy week in the virtual world for the John Peel Centre and the John Peel Archive project as we launched part of John’s record collection online. To end the week however, we came back to earth and embraced reality in the best way possible, with a live show.
The John Peel Centre for the Creative Arts in Stowmarket - a very tangible, physical place - played host to an equally real Billy Bragg who’s own work in bringing the archive of songs by Woody Guthrie to life, was the backdrop to a unique night at the Centre.
The show was a pilot for Billy’s Woody Guthrie centenary tour. “I’m not sure how tonight is going to play out but we’ll give it a go and find out together.” was Billy’s disclaimer as he checked the tuning of his 1930’s Gibson guitar.
Can It Really Be Happening?
Yes, it is! The contents of one of the most important and eclectic modern music collections in the world - John Peel’s personal record collection, is starting to be made public for the first time through an online archive.
John Peel’s family, The John Peel Centre for the Creative Arts, Eye Film and TV, and website company Klik, are working together to create an online archive of John Peel’s record collection, including specially created videos of key artists, John Peel’s home movies, John’s hand-typed note cards, and other content.
John Peel’s personal record collection consists of over 26,000 LPs, 40,000 singles and many thousands of CDs.
